Ghost in the Shell

Description

Main Characters

"Major" Motoko Kusanagi
Original voice: Atsuko Tanaka

Motoko Kusanagi is a very strong individual, both physically and mentally, and save for part of her brain, her body is almost completely mechanical. Motoko is very stubborn and likes to take risks, with little regard for her own safety, both on and off the job. Underneath this tough exterior, however, Mokoto often thinks about herself in relation to her humanity because of her cybernetic body, and even wonders if she really still is human.

Bateau
Original voice: Akio Otsuka

Bateau, like Motoko has a mechanical body, but to a slightly lesser degree, though it is never exactly indicated how much of it is cybernetic. Bateau has been partners with Motoko for a long time and thus knows her quite well. Although he is willing to take risks, he doesn't do this to the degree that Motoko does, and wishes that she would be more careful. He doesn't seem to fully understand Motoko's thoughts about her humanity and doesn't think of her or himself any differently than someone without a cybernetic body.

Togusa
Original voice: Kouichi Yamadera

The outsider of Section 9, Togusa does not have a cybernetic body like the others, and except for a small computer enhancment to his brain, he is completely human. He is quite clever and intuitive, and is also compassionate and a family man. These characteristics are the reason why he was transferred to Section 9, as before the division was lacking someone with these qualities. Despite its comparitive ineffectiveness, Togusa prefers to use a manual-type gun (Mateba 207), rather than an automatic-type that most everyone else uses.
