    Kane is a trouble contractor and pilot of the spaceship Swordbreaker, which he inherited from his grandmother. He was very close to her and decided to follow in his grandmother's footsteps after she died and he received the ship. Kane is stubborn and very determined and is obsessed with wearing his mantle (cape) all the time. He is skilled with the use of the psi-blade - an energy sword weapon - as well as an acomplished pilot. He is careful about the jobs he chooses as a trouble contractor, but once he has accepted a job, he sees it through until the end.

Millenium (Milly) Feria Nocturne

    Milly is young, egotistical, and extremely determined in everything she does. She is always striving to be the "Greatest ____ in the Universe". Her sharpshooting skills are second-to-none and she is also an excellent cook, though she usually makes a huge mess when she does cook. Milly met Kane and Canal while working as a private detective infiltrating a black market operation. The job did not go well and she was fired. She blamed Kane for being fired and decided to go with him until he made up for it, much to Kane's reluctance.

Canal Vorfeed

Original voice: Megumi Hayashibara

    Canal is the sarcastic, but loyal and compassionate holographic AI computer system of the Swordbreaker. She is obsessed with finding bigger and better weapons for the ship, spending most of the money Kane earns from Trouble Contracting on them. She is also obsessed with keeping the ship clean, a task thate becomes much more difficult when Milly arrives. Canal has many abilities, including being able to scan (and sometiems even control) most electronic systems, and being able to project herself outside of the ship to other ships or down to planets.

Rail Claymore

Original voice: Hikaru Midorikawa

    Rail is a Universal Gaurdian, the "police" of outer space. He frequently has Trouble Contracting jobs for Kane, though most come with a catch and it's usually because Rail can't or doesn't want to do them himself. Rail is very devious and cunning, and often has his own agenda behind everything he does. He does what he feels is right and just, though it sometimes contradicts others. At heart, however, he usually (but not always) has good intentions.

Neena Marcury

Original voice: Masami Suzuki

    Neena is a Universal Guardian like Rail, and is his assistant. She adores Rail and looks up to him, though she can overdo it sometimes. She is somewhat clumsy and frequently spills coffee on Rail. Neena and electronics do not get along very well, as she has a knack for shorting out any system she touches. As such, she isn't very popular with Canal. Neena is also very innocent and naive, and is very good with languages.
